Founded in 1861, the TSX is the largest stock exchange in Canada and has the eighth largest market capitalization in the world. The TSX is the leader in the mining and oil & gas sector; more mining and oil & gas companies are listed on the TSX than any other exchange in the world.
In 2002, the TSX acquired the TSX Venture Exchange which is a public venture capital marketplace for emerging companies that have not yet met the requirements for listing on the TSX. As of 31 December 2007, the TSX Venture Exchange had 2,176 listed companies with a combined market capitalization of $58 billion.
